The 12 legged groove machine Winachi Tribe have joined forces with Jamaican Reggae legend I Kong on their mind blowing new track entitled Parasites Paradise. After rocking their way around Italy in a run of shows for the iconic fashion brand Pantofola d’Oro, they’ve also just headlined the Warrington Music Festival along with Black Grape and appeared at Huey Morgan’s NYC Block Party in Norwich. Not looking to take their foot off the gas any time soon, their latest release with the reggae legend is released on Handshake Records, Friday May 17th.
With a vast and varied career, I Kong was inducted into reggae music as a small boy by his uncle, the influential Kingston producer Leslie Kong. Who worked with the likes of Jimmy Cliff and Bob Marley. I Kong would go on to be equally prolific. Releasing 6 albums and becoming the most talked about Reggae artist in China.
A fusion of British funk-rock with Reggae, released on a Chinese Indie Label is bound to get everybody talking. However, we caught up with Winachi frontman Liam Croker to get the scoop. “The track is a collaboration with I Kong, who’s arguably the biggest Reggae artist all over Asia. Handshake Records are releasing it on Vinyl over there. You’ve got Jamaica, China, and then us lot over here in Warrington.” Speaking about their global reach, we asked about their tireless live schedule. “We’ve also got some dates coming up with Sugar Hill Gang in Leeds and Manchester here in the UK. Also we’re headlining the live arena at Bowler’s in Manchester October 5th. and a lot more announcements coming up. We’ve also got a BIG collaboration with Italian clothing brand Pantofola d’Oro to coincide with Milan Fashion Week on June 11th. I can’t say too much about that” However, on the strength of this latest track, we’ll be keeping a keen eye out!
PARASITES PARADISE by The Winachi Tribe featuring I Kong is released on Handshake Records on May 16th, and can be Pre-Ordered here.
