Tom Speight’s new single Collide is the second track taken from his forthcoming album to be released Spring 2019. After an enforced two year hiatus from music following being diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, Tom returned to music in 2016. After which his single Love found itself on the Radio 2 playlist and hit millions of streams on Spotify. With Tom’s last three EPs all reaching the iTunes top 10, Speight started the process of recording of his first full length album. Revealing a first taste with the single Want You back in August.
Collide features a dual vocal with session vocalist Lydia Clowes (Laura Mvula, The Vamps, Sam Smith, Imogen Heap) who is now singing full time with Tom. Collide is another shining example of Tom Speight’s talent for crafting shimmering indie-folk that manages to be both intimate and anthemic. Tom says of the single:
‘Collide’ feels like a good introduction to my forthcoming album…it started life in Belfast and was finally finished in Devon with Chris Bond (Ben Howard) I was heavily influenced at the time of writing and recording it by early Fionn Regan and Joni Mitchell. I liked experimenting with different guitar voicing’s using the open D tuning and the result was the foundation of ‘Collide’. I always knew I wanted it to be a dual vocal because the lyrics are about two people coming together. Lydia Clowes always brings a warm richness to my songs, I knew she would be perfect for this track”
Continuing to build strong support from radio playlisting, Tom has also reached a staggering 50m streams, with 1.5m monthly listeners on Spotify.
