Premiering today on BBC6 Music’s Steve Lamacq show, Resister is the lead track from new She Drew The Gun album.
Produced by The Coral’s James Skelly, the album will be released October 5 on Skeleton Key Records. The sophomore album follows their acclaimed 2016 debut Memories Of The Future and continues the call to arms, revolutionary spirit of the first record. Front woman Louisa Roach said on the album’s theme.
“Empowerment; resisting; arming yourself with knowledge; questioning the status quo, questioning your own state of mind and how its affected by the systems we live in. I believe in questioning the rules and asking who they’re there to serve in the first place. I think some of that is down to being queer, and not conforming to rules around gender.”
Influenced by sci-fi visionaries like Kurt Vonnegut and Marge Piercy, Wirral born Roach received initial airplay from BBC Introducing Merseyside, which lead to Skelly signing her up to his Skeleton Key label. The addition of long-time friend Sian Monaghan on drums, Jack Turner on bass, and Jenni Kickhefer on keyboards completed the line up. As well as their own headline UK tour, She Drew The Gun have appeared at SXSW and took top prize in the Glastonbury Festival’s emerging talent competition. The band will also be supporting The Coral on tour in October.
