RuthAnne releases powerful video for Liquid

Nothing embodies the spirit of The Grey Lantern more than a true Trans-Atlantic artist. Splitting her time between London and New York, acclaimed songwriter and producer Ruth-Anne Cunningham is stepping out of the shadows and emerging as an artist in her own right.

Everyone has become a critic which means that more and more people are feeling the pressure to be perfect…to portray perfection. I allowed myself to be real about shit that wasn’t so great in my life and then write this song, calling it out for what it is and not letting any of it get to me anymore.”

RuthAnne Cunningham

Arriving in the US at just 17, she co-wrote JoJo‘s hit single Too Little Too Late with Billy Steinberg and Josh Alexander. Scooping herself an ASCAP Songwriters Award in the process. Over a decade later, she’s penned Britney Spears’ RIAA platinum-certified Work Bitch and bagged two BMI awards for penning Slow Hands for Niall Horan and In The Name Of Love for Martin Garrix. In the last year alone, songs written by RuthAnne streamed over 1.5 billion times

Liquid is the third single taken from her forthcoming album due for release in 2019. Produced by MJ&iRoK (Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube) and Cadenza (Jorja Smith, M.I.A, Rag n Bone Man), this soulful single sees RuthAnne move her sound closer to her early influences of Lauryn Hill and Amy Winehouse. However, behind the absorbing drum beats and and smooth soul of Liquid lies a powerful message. Taking on the subject of on-line bullying, RuthAnne says;

Filmed in Los Angeles, the video for the track features a girl who uploading her own cover of ‘Liquid’ online.  Only to receive a barrage of negativity from internet trolls. RuthAnne wanted to be a part of the conversation, illustrate how powerful words can be and how we should all be more responsible with them.

Liquid is out now on Other Songs Records.
