Moon Panda, the Brighton based collaboration of Californian songwriter Maddy Myers and Danish guitarist Gustav Moltke, today release their latest single Gun. Following on from their last single, the wonderfully dark edged Rabbit. Gun’s bass driven melody is the perfect vehicle for Maddy’s gentle, half whispered vocal. Before an arpeggio chorus and synthesized soundscape lead you to a dreamland where shadows wait. Gun has a lyrical content that illustrates the darker thoughts that exist within “the capricious human mind”
Produced by Tom Biller, who’s stellar resume includes Warpaint’s The Fool, Fiona Apple’s Extraordinary Machine, Elliott Smith’s From a Basement on a Hill, and Beck’s track Everybody’s Got to Learn Sometime from the OST of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Maddy said of Gun’s creation:
“To help represent the ever changing, ever fickle human mind, we used a changing time signature – the verse is in 6/8 and the chorus switches to 4/4. It’s not incredibly noticeable but I think it disrupts the sway of the song a bit and switches you into a new rhythm,”
Released on My Little Empire Records, Gun is available now and can be purchased here.
