A student of classical theory, jazz and ancient modes, all are still evident in his distinctly modern sound. Powers early music was influenced by artists such as Francis Bacon, Sister Gertrude Morgan and Harry Clarke. Powers would line his walls with artists’ works and found the graphic saturation helped inform the social and spiritual themes of his music.

Powers travelled extensively through Europe and Asia as well as his own United States and the poetry he wrote during this time became the backbone to the library of sounds he had been creating. Crafting songs that embrace noise, beauty and avant garde pop atmospheres, his songs highlight the intersection of unity, chaos, nightmares and the invisible forces at war within the self. Relocating to the Sonic Ranch Studio, a sprawling 2300 acre residential studio complex in Tornillo, Texas to record, the album was mixed by frequent Beyonce collaborator Stuart White.
