Following last month’s announcement of their third album Darkness Rains, Los Angeles’ Death Valley Girls today share More Dead. The new track will serve as the opener for the forthcoming album which will be released October 5th via Suicide Squeeze.

More Dead sees guitarist Larry Schemel serving up classic fuzzed out riffs in the best traditions of The Stooges. While delivers a teeth rattling vocal in this brilliant piece of sub 3-minute psycho-garage. However, beneath the blistering surface of their turbocharged, visceral sound lies a more cerebral message. Speaking about the track, the band offered this insight:

“After having experiences with people we love struggling to stay alive, we believe the harder the battle, the less one is able to ask for help. We wanted to write a song about how important and necessary each person is, especially these days. We need numbers now more than ever to fight the good fight.”

With the video’s director Dylan Mars Greenberg adding:

“I wanted to create a video that dealt with a serious issue that affected both Bonnie and I but in an abstract way. I used animation to generate the concept of rebirth and the juxtaposition of aerial videography with dark environments to tell the story of the overworld and underworld fighting over a soul.”

Serving as the core members of Death Valley Girls, Bloomgarden and Schemel are joined on their relentless touring schedule by whichever likeminded individuals they can get in the van. Darkness Rains sees bassist Alana Amram and drummer Laura Harris joined by Shannon Lay, The Kid (Laura Kelsey) and members of The Make Up, The Shivas and Moaning. Described by Iggy Pop, who starred in the video for Darkness Rains’ lead single Disaster (is what we’re after) as “A gift to the world” Death Valley Girls will be continuing their rigorous live schedule. Dates of which can be found below.

Darkness Rains will be released on LP/CD/CS/ and digital formats. With the first vinyl pressing is limited to 1,500 copies. Both the cassette and vinyl include digital downloads and can be pre-ordered here.
